So over the last couple days I've been working on an issue with my sound card. I was playing Dragon Age when EVERYTHING started slowing down and the sound was crackleing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and it worked fine for about 10 minutes and it started up again. Does anyone have any ideas or is my sound card fried?

Also it's a sound blaster X-Fi extreme that is build on the motherboard I bought not a separate card.

Well if ya could find out what motherboard you have that would be nice for searching online... maybe its a known problem with your hardware. Have you updated your sound drivers recently before these issues? Maybe going back 1 version would help? Also whats the temp like in your PC? Maybe things are overheating and that is causing the slowdowns and then audio quality loss/

This is going to be a really dumb question from an IT guy but what is the best way of checking the internal temp?

I hadn't updated my drivers recently unless it was an automatic update but the website doesn't look like there was any recent driver update.

well ya can do the old fashion does it burn my finger when i touch this style... :P

But the safer way would be to use a program that reads the temps of sensors that should be on your machine... not knowing what kind of motherboard you have... i would start with...

http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

and/or

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

Those i have had good luck with and are simple and easy to use.

well that depends on what part your talking about... personally i don't think anything in your PC should be over 50C... but some things do naturally run hotter. Not sure if your video card has a temp sensor on it.. im guessing not.. but your system temp i would hope would be under 40C... preferably under 30C... ya would want the temp of the air in your PC to be as close to the temp of the room your in as possible. I guess the question is do you have any really high temps?
